Classroomie is a morning-meeting board that teachers display on a classroom screen and control from their own device. It is built on a simple principle: it does not collect personal information about students. This page explains what we do and don’t collect, and the specific steps we take to keep student data out of the product.

What we collect

We collect only what a teacher needs to use Classroomie:

• Account information — the email address and password you use to sign in. Authentication is handled by Supabase.
• Content you create — the boards, cards, schedules, messages, and settings you set up. This is general classroom content authored by you, the teacher.
• Basic technical data — standard logs needed to operate and secure the service.

We do not show ads, and we do not sell or rent any data to anyone.

Student data — what we don’t collect

Classroomie has no student accounts and no student logins. Students never sign in and are never identified by the product. Specifically:

• We do not collect or store individual students’ names, photos, birthdays, or attendance.
• The interactive cards students can tap on the classroom screen — the Class Poll and the Mood Check-In — record anonymous totals only. They count how many taps each choice received; they never record who tapped what.
• We do not track, profile, or build records about individual children.

How we keep student data out

We rely on design first, and guidance second.

• No per-student features. Classroomie does not offer any card or field whose purpose is to hold an individual student’s name, photo, birthday, or attendance. Student-facing interactions are limited to anonymous counts.
• Anonymous by construction. The poll and mood features store running totals — there is no place in the data for an individual student’s response.
• Image links are restricted. When a teacher adds a picture by link, Classroomie only accepts links from a small set of approved sources (such as YouTube, GIPHY, Tenor, Unsplash, Pexels, Pixabay, Wikimedia, and Flaticon). Links to personal photo services — Google Photos, Google Drive, iCloud, Dropbox, and Facebook — are blocked, which prevents pasting a photo of a student.
• Shared board links are private. The link you use to show a board on a TV is a long, unguessable address, and these pages are set to noindex so they cannot be found by search engines. A board is only viewable by someone who already has its exact link.
• Point-of-entry reminders. Free-text fields (for example, the custom card and the morning message) display a reminder to keep content anonymous and avoid student names or personal details.

Acceptable use

Classroomie is for displaying general classroom content on a shared screen. By using it, you agree not to enter students’ names, photos, birthdays, or other personal information into any field, and not to use Classroomie to collect, store, or display personal information about individual students.Free-text fields are provided for general content (lunch menus, reminders, schedules, sight words, and the like), not for student records.

Third-party services

We use a small number of providers to run the service:

• Supabase — account sign-in, database, and hosting of your board content.
• Netlify — application hosting.
• Open-Meteo — weather, looked up by the town or ZIP you choose, not by any precise location.
• Openverse and GIPHY — searching for openly-licensed images and GIFs you can add to a board.
• YouTube — optional video cards, embedded using YouTube’s privacy-enhanced (no-cookie) mode.

When a board displays an image, GIF, or video, your browser loads it from the provider that hosts it. We limit these to the approved sources listed above.

Cookies

We use cookies only to keep you signed in. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

Keeping data, and deleting it

We keep your account and board content for as long as your account is active. You can delete individual boards at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account and its content. When you do, we remove it.

Children

Classroomie is a tool for teachers, not a service directed at children for the purpose of collecting their information. Because it does not collect personal information from students, it is designed to support schools in meeting their obligations under laws such as FERPA and COPPA. Schools remain responsible for their own compliance and for any agreements they require from vendors.
